One thought on “update and trans identity as a big reveal?” Add yours It’s good to have you back 🙂 I hope you’re okay now and will be, too. Health issues can be so draining. Maybe stress is what brought this out again. I know, I certainly react to it. I know you were not talking about me, so I’m just sharing an experience here: I once felt like I had to put the trans identity of a character in a spoiler because in the book it was a revelation later on and so it was a spoiler. But even then I didn’t like that I ‘had’ to, because it felt wrong to me. I think it was the right thing to do, but it somehow rubbed me the wrong way. I even commented on it in the review. But the funny thing is that I think the trans person was actually portrayed very well, and his transness wasn’t a major twist or anything. He just didn’t tell people right away and so they wouldn’t know. And the author is also trans, so there really was nothing wrong with it. Weird, huh? I wonder if sometimes reviewers also put this in spoilers because they feel like they have to ‘excuse’ it… It’s just a feeling though.
